pic cred: Boland Cricket
Netherlands named their squad for the T20 World Cup that will be played in England, and Babette de Leede will lead the side. Netherlands will be in South Africa's group at the World Cup, which includes Australia, India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
"We are super excited for our first ever appearance in the ICC T20 World Cup. It will be a great opportunity to compete with the best teams in the world, and to show the talent that we have in the Netherlands on the big stage. We hope to make the Dutch cricket community proud, and to inspire young girls in the Netherlands," said de Leede.
The Boland skipper will have a tough task of leading a 15-player squad that includes the experienced Sterre Kalis, who has been in good form for her English County side Yorkshire. The squad only has two changes from the one that played World Cup Qualifiers in January, and the Dutch added two teenagers in Lara Leemhuis and Rosalie Lawrence.
While de Leede has not played much competitive cricket lately, when she last played for Boland at the cross-pool week in Mangaung, she scored a century and a half-century in the week to finish as one of the leading run-scorers. In the previous season (2024/25), she finished as the fourth highest run-scorer in the Hollywoodbets Pro50 when she played for Western Province. De Leede is definitely a player to watch in the T20 World Cup.
