pic cred: CSA
Kimberley-born batter Diego Rosier has followed up his half-century and century from the opening round with an unbeaten double century against Dafabet Boland at Boland Park in Paarl.
In the North West Dragons’ first match of the season, Rosier produced two vital knocks to help the Dragons secure their first CSA 4-Day Series victory over the Knights in Mangaung. He scored 71 in the first innings before following it up with 124 in the second, finishing the match with 207 runs.
Now, in his second away match of the season, the middle-order batter has continued his remarkable run of form, scoring an unbeaten 207 at the close of play in Paarl. The Dragons finished the first day on 440/3, with wicketkeeper-batter Meeka-eel Prince scoring 74 and returning from international duty Rubin Hermann contributing 90. Ruan Sawrdt was still there at close of play with 53 to his name.
With his unbeaten 207, Rosier has taken his season tally to 408 runs from just two matches. He will have the opportunity to add to that total when he resumes his innings on day two. Unless the Boland Park pitch starts to assist the bowlers, the Dragons could be in a strong position to post a massive first-innings total. They will then hope to put pressure on the Boland batting lineup and make things easier for their bowlers. However, if the home side manages to bat for a significant period, a draw could also become a strong possibility.
At this stage, Rosier is putting himself firmly into the conversation as a potential leading run-scorer in this season’s competition. Reaching 408 runs after just three innings is an exceptional start, and if he can maintain his form, a 1,000-run season is certainly on the cards. He has at least 5 more matches available to reach that milestone, provided he avoids an injury setback or a significant loss of form.
At 32, Rosier could also put himself into contention for a place in the Proteas Test squad in the future, potentially even for one series in 2027. His continued run-scoring will certainly strengthen his case, particularly if he can maintain this level of consistency over an extended period.
For now, however, Rosier’s immediate focus will be on turning his unbeaten double century into an even bigger score and helping the North West Dragons put themselves in a commanding position in Paarl.
